Structure of ICAMS
The structure of ICAMS reflects the hierarchical structure of materials. On the most fundamental scale of the electronic structure the advanced study group Modelling of Jörg Neugebauer provides parameter-free first-principles models and calculations that form the basis of the developments in the ICAMS department for Atomistic Modelling and Simulation of Ralf Drautz. Using large scale atomistic simulations, the link is made to microstructure-based models in the department for Micromechanical and Macroscopic Modelling of Alexander Hartmaier to predict the mechanical behaviour of materials. Within the department for Scale Bridging Thermodynamic and Kinetic Simulation of Ingo Steinbach phase transformations and microstructural evolution during processing and deformation of materials is investigated on the mesoscopic scale. The advanced study group for Input Data and Validation of Gunther Eggeler provides the methods of microscopic and mechanical material characterisation for ICAMS. The advanced study group for Processing and Characterization of Wolfgang Bleck introduces steel know-how into ICAMS and conducts validation experiments.
Every year ICAMS is evaluated by the ICAMS scientific and industrial advisory board. The board is chaired by Martin Stratmann from the Max- Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung and comprises members from industry and academia.
