Transport and Response
The transport properties of condensed matter play an important role for the response to external perturbations such as electric and magnetic fields or externally imposed temperature and deformation gradients.
Examples here extend over a wide range of phenomena from thermo- and piezoelectric effects to stress-response in systems under steady shear. The project group covers a broad variety of methods from electronic structure calculations and lattice dynamics over molecular dynamics simulations to lattice Boltzmann and fluid dynamics approaches. These methods extend over several time and length scales and are well suited to adequately describe various aspects of the response in both soft and hard condensed matter.
