Admission

The requirements for admission to the masters course are:

  • A Bachelor (B. Sc.) or comparable degree in one of the following or related disciplines:
    Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Power Engineering, Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Mathematics, Computer Sciences or Astronomy.
  • Adequate English language skills
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Students with a 7 semester Bachelor's degree have the possibility to apply directly for a 3 semester course, starting every summer term.
  • Students who have irrevocably failed the final exam of a Master's, Bachelor's or Diploma degree at a german university in one of the disciplines mentioned above cannot apply for the Masters course Materials Science and Simulation.

The examination board of the master's course is entitled to raise further requirements in the individual case.

Application

You should complete the application form and send it per email to mss@icams.rub.de together with the following documents:

  • Application form
  • 2 passport photos
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Certified* copy of school leaving certificate
  • Certified* copy of qualifying academic degree
  • Certified* copy of subjects and grades
  • A personal statement describing your motivation to apply for the programme
  • Proof of English language skills:
    → native English speaker
    → TOEFL: minimum score 550 points paper-based, 215 computer-based or 79 internet-based; the TOEFL score must be sent to us directly from ETS; Institution code: 3038
    → IELTS: Minimum score 6.0; the IELTS score must be sent to us directly from ETS
  • Students from China: the original APS document (no copy)
  • Any further information that might be relevant for your application.

All certificates have to be translated into English or German. Make sure to send in only Certified* copies!

* A certified copy is a copy of a document that has been affirmed to be a true copy by an authorised person or authority (university, embassy, consulate, sworn interpreter etc.)

The original documents will be required when registering at the university.
