New job opening: Junior-Professor in ‘Atomistic modelling of reactive interfaces between solids and liquids’

22.11.2011

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) - Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry together with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation - is seeking to appoint a

Junior-Professor (W1) in ‘Atomistic modelling of reactive interfaces between solids and liquids',

to start in spring/summer 2012. The position is for a fixed term of up to 6 years (3 years initially) and includes generous resources for several scientific staff positions, consumables, travel, and computing.

The successful applicant will establish an interface theory group that contributes to the atomistic modelling of reactive solid-liquid interfaces for solvation processes and electrochemistry in research and teaching. The interface theory group will be embedded into the broad expertise in modelling and simulation that is available at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation.

A focus of the interface theory group will be the coarse-graining of the electronic structure in terms of interacting atoms for modelling the reaction dynamics at interfaces, including electric fields and charge transfer, with the long-term goal of parameterizing reaction kinetics networks. In this way the interface theory group will link to the microkinetic modelling of interfacial processes and integrate into scale-bridging modelling activities at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation.

We expect an excellent PhD degree in a relevant area, experience with teaching of graduates and undergraduates and the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB and to generally get involved in university processes in accordance with RUB’s mission statement. Furthermore, experience in working in interdisciplinary research projects and the proven ability for generating external funding will be beneficial.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an equal opportunity employer.

Please send your complete application, including CV, list of publications and a three pages statement that summarizes your research plans for the next 5 years to Prof. Dr. Ralf Drautz, Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, D-44780 Bochum, Germany. Applications must be received by 4 January 2012. The interviews will take place on 24 January 2012. Further information may be found at:
