"Strong coupling of thermo-chemical and thermo-mechanical states in applied materials" is one of the thirteen new priority programmes of the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft (DFG).
The programme is co-ordinated by Prof. Ingo Steinbach at ICAMS. It is dedicated to the investigation of the interplay of mechanical and chemical forces in metals and polymers and temperature dependent effects.
Computer simulations will be used to understand these effects and improve materials' properties, production processes and lifetime of materials like high-strength steels, nickel-base alloys or fibre-reinforced polymers.
About 20 theoretically and experimentally oriented institutes from Germany will cooperate for six years in the framework of the programme.
Kick Off for applicants will be May 27 at Ruhr-University Bochum, Veranstaltungszentrum.
