My research is focused on micromechanical modelling of metals. Especially the analysis of grain size effect i.e. grain boundary strenthening.
When the microstructural length scale is reduced to submicron level, deformation mechanisms are observed to be deviating from coarser length scales and lead to size effects. The aim is to use phase field method coupled with strain gradient plasticity to analyze evolution of dislocations under plastic deformation. Understanging the strengthening/softening of the material resulting from it can be utilized to control the material quality and customization at industrial level.
- An open source, phase field method based library Open Phase is developed and used
- Non local plastic deformation is analyzed
- Full field analysis can be done, starting from molten metal all the way upto final deformed solid metal specimen.
