Combined phase field - Lattice Boltzmann simulation of dendritic solidification with fluid flow and solid particle motion

We present a combined phase field – lattice Boltzmann approach for simulation of the dendritic solidification with fluid flow allowing dendrite motion due to the interplay between gravitational, buoyancy and an internally driven flow. Withing the proposed approach the dendrite can freely move and rotate while growing. Coupling between growth, transport and fluid solid interaction is done in an explicit manner, where the solid is taken rigid and the force balance is integrated within the diffuse interfaces to ensure momentum conservation. Several case studies of sedimenting dendrites will be presented.
