Grain boundaries are weak spots prone to failure in numerous materials which are indispensable for our everyday life. The diversity of involved phenomena renders a predictive understanding of the associated failure processes challenging to this day. Specifically, the interaction of structural transitions and wetting phenomena on atomistic scales and transport processes on the extended mesoscale is demanding from a modelling perspective. We present results we gained via combination of different theoretical approaches which complement each other very efficiently.
