Nickel-Chromium base alloys exhibit high corrosion and oxidation resistance characteristics and are therefore extensively used in a large number of industrial applications such as turbine blades. The Cr-Ni system shows one eutectic equilibria at 1618 K, 54 at.%Cr (1) and the Cr-Pd system presents one eutectic equilibria at 1577 K, 60 at.%Cr (2). The Ni and Pd elements are completely miscible in the solid state at temperatures higher than 500 K. While thermodynamic descriptions are available for all the three binary alloys, to our knowledge, there is no assessment of the Cr-Ni-Pd ternary system available within the literature. Another interesting property of these alloys is that Ni and Cr are ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic, respectively. It is therefore interesting to study the effect of alloy composition on the magnetic transitions on these ternary alloys. As the thermodynamic descriptions of the binaries Cr-Ni (1), Cr-Pd (2) and Ni-Pd (3) do not include the most recent magnetic model reported by Xiong et al. (4), the aim of the present work is to update the binary descriptions and to obtain, by extrapolation, the one for the ternary. Some key experiments are designed to validate the anticipated ternary description.
