Anomalies in plastic deformation of TiAl and some other tight binding calculations

Date: 27.06.2011
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Place: UHW 11/1102

Anthony Paxton, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Queen's University, Belfast, United Kingdom

The talk is in two parts. In the first I will show how using a bond order potential we can understand a number of the anomalies in the deformation in TiAl including the Schmid Law violation, channelled flow and the yield anomaly. In the second part I will discuss new tight binding models for iron and its interstitial impurities, carbon and hydrogen including implications for the construction of the associated bond order potentials.
