An interface dissipation phase-field model for electrochemistry

It is demonstrated that a newly developed phase-field model for systems far from equilibrium can be applied to electrochemistry. Finite mobility of  charged species in a interface leads to overvoltage which controls the charge  transfer in the system. Pathways to refine the model and obtain new insight  into the general factors limiting the efficiency or even leading to failure  points in battery systems are delineated.
