Micro-macrosimulation of casting processes

This lecture starts with a brief description of an original hybrid FE/CV method used to discretize coupled 3-D heat and fluid flow problems. Special features for the modeling of casting processes are then presented: latent release heat in the mushy region, net radiation method for mobile casting moulds. The modeling of fluid flow in casting processes is described and a new FF-VOF method for mould filling is presented. In a last part, the basis of the phase field method applied to direct microstructure evolution during the solidification process is elaborated and illustrated by some applications.
