Abstract

On October 21–22, 2026, Bochum joins the Open Scientific Intelligence (OSI) Hackathon as a local on-site hub. OSI is a free, hybrid, international hackathon held simultaneously across sites worldwide, alongside a virtual cohort. Previously known as the LLM Hackathon for Materials Science & Chemistry, its first edition in 2023 produced 14 LLM applications, published in a peer-reviewed paper in Digital Discovery. The event has grown since then: 34 projects across 7 sites in 2024, and 120 projects across 16 sites in 2025, with a strong focus on agentic workflows and lab automation.
