The hyperfine fields (HFF) at the Hf sites in the AB2 type pseudo-binary compounds Zr1-xHfxFe2 are measured by - time differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) in order to investigate possible periodic effects. Samples with × = 0.01, 0.03, 0.10, and 0.25 are studied. Two magnetic sites with magnetic HFF of respectively 62.5 and 92.0 kOe at × = 0.01 are found, both decreasing slightly with the concentration. The existence of two fields is attributed to Hf sites with and with-out a Hf atom as a nearest neighbour. An interpretation is given in which the d-electron polarization at the Hf sites reverses with respect to the Zr sites by a Friedel effect, explaining the low observed HFF as compared to the values for Zr in ZrFe2 and Hf in HfFe2.
