My mission:

Pulsatile flow within an aneurysm for different vessel wall elasticity as indicated. Strongest flow occurs for the case of a soft (degraded) tissue on the right.

Current research interests of Fathollah Varnik cover a broad range including molecular scale problems and phenomena on the mesoscopic scale. Some examples are given below.

Molecular Dynamics: Hybrid Lattice Boltzmann-Phase Field Method:
  • Structure formation in metallic foams
  • Dendritic growth in the presence of convection
Hybrid Lattice Boltzmann-FEM:
  • Flow and stresses in cerebral aneurysma
  • Pressure-stress phase shift in blood flow through flexible arteries

Research Interests:

Dynamics of free surfaces, droplets and multi-component fluids
Lattice Boltzmann modeling
Convection-diffusion in micro-channels
Non-linear rheology of disordered systems
